Z is a serious, captivating political thriller. It feels realistic because the dramatic tension draws from ruthlessness and conviction very plainly and directly stated. However, note also that the film is not stylized, nor is it melodramatic. A viewer wanting and expecting a more cinematic experience may find Z underwhelming as it isn't a Hollywood product.
