Howards End is an odd period drama. The look and acting of the film are quite nice, though nothing stands out particularly. There are various elements to the film with some intended meaning which I did not grasp. Without those, the plot does not stand on its own. In the end I cannot say I disliked it and can imagine someone picking up on the things I missed and liking it quite well.
